A hydrograph limb is a part of a hydrograph.
A typical hydrograph can be separated to baseflow and stormflow (peakflow). A peak on the hydrograph can be separated into the rising and falling limbs.
- The rising limb of the hydrograph is the initial steep part leading up to the highest or peakflow value, mostly contributed by precipitation.
- The falling (or recession) limb of the hydrograph is the period after the peak and is characterised by a long, slow decrease in streamflow until the baseflow is reached again[1].
We show that the variation in the shape of the rising limb of the annual hydrograph is controlled by variability in dust radiative forcing and surprisingly is independent of variations in winter and spring air temperatures[2].
