Upwelling of the mixed water can be seen from the temperature and velocity contours for the model reservoir [Üneş et al., 2015]. For instance, large amounts of DOC are produced and processed in the coastal upwelling area off the north western part of the Iberian Peninsula [Igarza et al., 2019]. Therefore, upwelling events along coastal areas influenced by freshwater discharge significantly affect spreading and mixing of river plumes, as well as the local nutrient cycle, biological consumption, food webs, and biological productivity [Osadchiev et al., 2020].

Для примера, большое количество DOC производится и переносится в прибрежной зоне апвеллинга у северо-западной части Пиренейского полуострова [Igarza et al., 2019]. Таким образом, апвеллинг вдоль прибрежных зон, подверженных воздействию стока пресной воды, значительно влияет на распространение и перемешивание речных плюмов, а также на местный цикл биогенов и их потребление, на пищевые сети и биологическую продуктивность [Osadchiev et al., 2020].
